The Initial Values section of a property definition allows you to define the default values to use.

Domain List:

To add a blank field to a domain list,  enable Add blank entry to list.

I want to stress your attention to the Read Only option. The Read Only option won’t allow you to manually enter a value into the field. Otherwise, it’s permitted (manually enter a value). We basically kept this in case you want to personalize a little more your environment with, for example : please select a value.

However, if you set the Read Only option you won’t be able to define an Initial Value, since as it says, the field is Read Only, so it expects to get a selection from your domain list, not a predefine value. Enhancement #212460 has been filled regarding this.

Now, what else does the Read Only option? It means that first entry from your domain list will be automatically selected. If you “Add blank entry to list” and define the Read Only option, this means that you will get a blank value selected automatically. And based on your workflow, it might be important since some value at the time of feature placement might be unknown.

This works with XFM.

With Oracle and SQL data (registered features), these settings are defined in the database. But functionality explained above remains the same.

Screen shot from the provided geo_example schema. I’ve highlighted the important points.
