With Bentley Map and Bentley Map Enterprise. Select the Msgeo_mapfinishing Work space as shown.
To use the Bentley Advanced Map Finishing effects tools, open the Functions Toolbox from the Map Finishing tool frame.
Click on Function tools it should display list of list of commands.
Also enable WYSIWYG on the Map Finishing menu; this re-symbolizes elements to Show Bentley Advanced Map Finishing effects that have been applied to them.
1. Shade
It Shades an element with a gray scale. It’s used on text elements.It should work on Microstation text, but not on FlexiText element.
-> Open .dgn file with some shape elements.
-> Select the Shade tool from the Functions toolbox
-> In the tool settings window :
- Define the Gray settings in the integer.
- Specifies to use a fence and fence mode. (This option will get enable once fence is place around the contents to process.)
- Turn on Use Fence in the tool settings window. (optional)
- Set Fence Mode to the appropriate setting. (optional)
- Accept with a data point. (optional)
-> Identify the element(s) to be shaded. (It should only work on outline of shapes like circle, polygon etc.)
-> Accept the change.
-> In status bar check the confirmation prompt with gray scale (gs) and color value (co) assigned in shade dialog.
Note: The shade attribute does not display on screen, it only appears on the print output. When you print shade attribute, the Monochrome toggle must be turned ON in the Advance print dialog in the Output tab.

2. Fill Tool
Opens the Fill Element settings window which is used to fill an element with color and/or gray scale shading. Fill dialog is similar to Shade Tool with one added functionality i.e. Color. It is used to define the fill color setting. If the color item is not selected then the element is filled with its current color.
To Fill an Element
-> Select the Fill tool from the Functions toolbox.
-> In the tool settings window, define the settings you want to apply.
-> Identify the element(s) to fill.
-> Accept the change.
Note : It should not work on Microstation Text, Flexitext Element and linear feature
3. Fill & Outline tool
It is used to fill and outline an element with color and gray scale shading.
To Fill and Outline an Element
- Select the Fill & Outline tool from the Functions toolbox.
- Defines the fill grey scale.
- Defines the outline grayscale.
- Defines the fill color.
Note : It should not work on Microstation Text, Flexitext Element and linear feature
4. Graduated Fill tool
The Graduated Fill tool fills a closed element with a smooth variation of color from the start color to the end color. The direction of the graduations is determined by the angle specified.
Note: Text strings, but not text nodes, can be plotted as graduated fill but do not appear on screen as filled.
To Fill an Element with Graduated Fill
-> Select the Graduated Fill tool from the Functions toolbox.
-> On the Graduated Fill Element dialog, click the color button and change the color.
-> Double click on the scale at 50% to add another color indicator and change the color.
-> Set the Angle.
-> Select the element and confirm with a data point.
5. Outline Text tool
This tool is similar to Shade tool describe above just the difference is it’s applied on Text Elements.
6. Fill & Outline Text tool
This tool is similar to Fill & Outline tool describe above just the difference is it’s applied on Text Elements.
7. Shadow Text tool
It is used to add a shadowing effect to a text element.
-> Open the SHADOW dialog, change Color,Offset, and Angle.
-> Select the Text element and confirm with a data point.
8. Radiated Fill
The Radiated Fill tool fills a closed element with a variation of color from a start point to the furthermost point within the element. After selecting the element to apply the fill, a second data point defines the start point.

-> Open the Graduated Radiated Fill Element dialog.
-> On the Graduated Radiated Fill Element dialog, click the Color button and change the color.
-> Select a circle element and define the start point inside the element with a
-> Data point at the top center of the circle
-> Select a different circle and define the start point at the bottom right of the circle
-> Select a third circle and define the start point in the center of the circle.

9. Halo
The halo tools generate a graduated halo around an element, starting at one color and ending in another at the specified distance from an element. A full halo can be produced on both sides of an element.
10. One sided Halo
The One sided halo tools generate a graduated halo around one side of element.
11. Transparent
The Make Transparent tool causes an element to appear partially transparent making objects behind the element visible -though their color will be affected. This can be used to highlight areas – or to change the color of images. E.g. black and white raster images can be given a colored tint.
Make a closed shape transparent
-> Click on the Make Transparent tool.
-> Set the transparency to 50% in the Screen % field on the Make Transparent Dialog.
-> Select the Development Area and confirm with a data point.
-> The element underneath the development area will be visible.
